Period and renaissance costumes are very much in vogue in 2007. The renaissance period came just after the medieval era, and the traditional dress of that time is reflected, partially, in the costumes that pass today as being renaissance.
For women, the vintage renaissance styling is represented by the feminine, flowing features of the dresses. However, the styles have been adapted and updated for modern costumes, sometimes almost totally revamped, for example to create sexy versions of a period style.
The on the left is one of an elegant full length renaissance dress. This faire maiden costume, worn in this case by a dark maiden, does reflect what we probably imagine of a sophisticated renaissance lady, though if the truth be told we probably have no real idea what ladies wore in the renaissance period.

If you are a woman looking for a renaissance costume, it is doubtful that you care whether it looks at all authentic; just that it looks good, and has a renaissance touch designed in somewhere. The renaissance period covered, roughly, the 14th to 16th centuries, and few around you will really know what women dressed like all those centuries ago; just what they have seen in movies.
The costumes pictured on this page are a mix of modern and renaissance, and show what you can achieve in elegance, femininity, and sexiness, by combining these two elements of dress design.
Pirates are much in the news these days. Both the real modern pirates plaguing the seas around Indonesia, and the renaissance pirates, as portrayed in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. The second Pirates of the Caribbean movie, Dead Man's Chest, has been a massive success in 2007, and this is reflected in the lady pirate costume pictured (left).

This sexy pirate costume could, admittedly, be partially post renaissance, with that crop top. However, I could point to many men who would surely give up their treasures for the wearer of this costume, with its draped sleeves and feminine, flowing full length skirt.
The final picture (left) has a great deal of vintage feminine charm, whether worn by the model, Demi Moore (whose voice was used by Disney for Esmeralda). This Esmeralda peasant dress with overskirt and corseted vest will bring a delicate feminine touch to the blood, horror and gore of Halloween.
