Harry Potter Costumes - Griffindor, Quidditch, and Hedwig the Owl
There seems to be no end to the success of the Harry Potter books, and of course the movies. The author, JK Rowling, has become one of the richest women in Britain due to the wild success of her Harry Potter novels, which have captured the imagination of children and adults alike, all over the world. No wonder Harry Potter costumes are popular for any occasion when fancy dress is appropriate. Including, of course, Halloween.
The Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry does much to enhance the reputation of England as being the place that is full of witches, wizards, vampires and all the stuff of horror movies. When I first came to the Philippines from England, I was surprised, and amused, that what people knew most about Britain was Princess Diana, the Beatles, witches and vampires. I even met a lady whose friend refused to meet an Englishman in case he was a vampire.
The Harry Potter books are all about witchcraft and wizardry, though, woven into English public school life at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft. With Harry Potter as a student at Hogwarts, and all the other students competitive witches and wizards, there is always plenty of chance for a good story line. Traditional English school discipline applies, though, so school uniforms and house uniforms are compulsory.
The uniforms for Harry Potter's school make excellent and easily recognizable costumes, which will I am sure be popular at Halloween again this year. The top picture is of a Harry Potter Griffindor robe from the Extreme Halloween Network (click picture to buy), while the second is a Quidditch robe.
The Harry Potter stories are not just about school robes and Harry Potter himself. Other characters make good costume material too, such as Hedwig the Owl, featured in the child's costume shown left.
There are, of course, other characters who will no doubt be featured as this year's movie costumes, and more of those will be coming soon.
