Spiders and Webs as Halloween Props

Arachnids strike fear into millions of people across the world. I can't imagine why, really, as they are quite cute and normally harmless; the big furry ones can even be quite cuddly. But the reality is, arachnophobia rules, okay? What is an arachnid? For the less knowledgeable on matters of the natural world, they are spiders. If the truth be told, though, I was "intrigued" when a skinny legged spider larger than my hand came into my bathroom when I first moved to a tropical island.
What do spiders have to do with Halloween? Not a lot really, except they can scare the living daylights out of a significant proportion of the two legged human species. Halloween is all about fear (isn't it?), so is it not in keeping to have a few scary spider props around the Halloween party scene? Of course it is! Even if you do not agree the connection, there's a chance you will encounter a spider, and/or a spiders's web, when it comes to the darkness of Halloween.
Spider props for Halloween are far more popular than the spiders themselves, as are the paraphernalia that surrounds their fascinating lives. Spiders webs, of course, are miraculous works of art and silken engineering. They also tend to appear a lot in scary movies, on a giant scale of course. If you want to set a spidery scene for Halloween, then a giant spiders web is a good prop to start with.
The centre picture is of a colourful spider strand, a cheap and cheerful, and not too scary decor item. The spider cut out (top right) is another option, and you will no doubt be able to find some giant spiders for the wall or in hidey holes around the house. Tarantulas are a favourite scare spider, so feature widely in Halloween stores. Not to mention Spider Man, Black Widow and other spidery costumes.
